A great summer of racing is now quickly nearing the end for yet another year. Before the weather gets cold though, there are two more big shows this weekend for the ASCS Patriots with plenty on the line.



For the second year in a row, the ASCS Patriots return to Sharon and Eriez Speedways for a pair of $2,000-to-win Labor Day Weekend Races. These are the final two full point shows of the year, putting an end to the regular season before the many post-season events get going in the fall. Bryan Howland Survives Scare for ASCS Patriot Win at Stateline

In baseball, Reggie Jackson was dubbed “Mr. October” for his late-season performances. In the Patriot Region, Bryan Howland’s late-season excellence could earn him the title “Mr. August.”

Howland, of Auburn, NY, capitalized on a slight bobble by Tim Kelly on lap 18 to take the lead and drive away to score his fourth ASCS Patriot win of the season to capture the Insinger Race Fuels King of the Southern Tier Crown while strengthening his championship point lead in the process. Already the only driver to win multiple Patriot features at Stateline, Howland would win on the final Saturday in August for the third year in a row on the NY/PA Stateline.

ASCS Patriots Settle Southern Tier Title at Stateline Saturday

With the end of the 2010 season rapidly approaching, the ASCS Patriots return to the Stateline Speedway to decide another leg of the Five Crown Tour.



The Insinger Race Fuels King of the Southern Tier Series will be concluded this Saturday at Stateline Speedway located just south of Jamestown, NY. It is a track that has been friendly to each of the top five in Patriot points, making this event a wide-open one.

Merrittville’s ASCS Patriot Event Falls to Rain

A dreary day in Southern Ontario ended miserably for fans and teams alike as the ASCS Patriot event as part of the Fine Touch Collision King of the Golden Horseshoe Series was washed out.



As has been the case in the two prior Patriot shows at Merrittville, 25 cars filled the pits with a nice mix of Patriot regulars, locals and others. The cars hit the D-shaped oval for hot laps, with rookie Dylan Swiernik the quickest of the group.

Black Rock’s Fall Sprint Nationals Just One Month Away!

Fresh off a scintillating sprint show at Black Rock Speedway on Friday, the biggest event of the year in Dundee is now under one month on the countdown.

One month from today, the first of two nights of action for Black Rock’s Fall Sprint Nationals will take place on the 4/10-mile. Bryan Howland Breaks Through at Black Rock in $4,000-to-win A-Verdi Championship

For Bryan Howland, any track he has not won at is, in his mind, not a good race track for him. Even though he has run well at Black Rock Speedway many times before Friday Night, seeing the double checkered flags first put this track on a whole new level.

Howland, 23, of Auburn, NY, captured the $4,000 top prize by winning the A-Verdi Championship at Black Rock Speedway, presented by S.P. Wilson/Lakes Gas. It was easy to detect the jubilation for the three-time Patriot Championship as he even climbed a top his No. 51 and raised his hands high in the air to the appraisal of the packed house.

Every year since 2001 Black Rock Speedway has hosted a major sprint car event in early August in front of major crowds. This Friday, that tradition continues in a big money event that not only will have a race winner, but crown a champion as well.

Dan Shetler Slides to ASCS Patriot/ Sprint Express Win at Woodhull

Dan Shetler entered the ASCS Patriot/ Sprint Express Shootout Weekend as a lesser known “outsider” from Western PA. After a quiet top-10 on Friday, he found his way to the front late in the Woodhull Feature in the event and did all he could to hang on to it.



Shetler, of Johnstown, PA, picked up the $2,500 pay day after inheriting the lead when George Suprick got together with Chuck Hebing battling for the race lead and then would out duel Friday winner Alan Cole on the final lap to complete a thrilling night of racing.

Chuck Hebing noted before the night that his 2010 season, which was heavily peppered with bad luck, had him scratching his head about his car and his ability. Even though that bad luck would return later in the night, in the make-up feature, his bad luck was nowhere to be found.


Hebing, the 2006 and 2007 ASCS Patriot Champion, captured his series-high 32nd career feature win with the sun still shining as he lead all 25-laps of the feature race held over from May 22nd. It was his third career win at Woodhull, making him the first to accomplish that feat in a sprint car. Along the way, Hebing would also run the majority of laps under the former track record, with his best a 13.10 on lap four.

ASCS Patriots Challenge Sprint Express for Big Money Weekend

The ASCS Patriots round out a busy month of action this weekend with two more challenge events take on top competitors not normally seen on the Patriot tour. If a Patriot can come out on top though, it will be worth $2,500 weekend.

Fast Track Summer Shootout at Rolling Wheels Falls to Rain

What was supposed to be two full nights of terrific sprint car competition resulted in just a time trial session and three heat races.

ASCS Patriots Prepare for Fast Track Summer Shootout at Rolling Wheels

The ASCS Patriots move from the ¼-mile Cornwall Motor Speedway, the smallest tack on tour, to the 5/8-mile Rolling Wheels Raceway this weekend, the largest track on tour, for two big nights of racing as part of the Fast Track Summer Shootout.

Patriots Sprint Along the St. Lawrence This Weekend

After a weekend off following an event at the largest track on the tour, the ASCS Patriot Sprints head to a pair of tracks that combined do not equal the size of Little Valley.

This Saturday and Sunday, the ASCS Patriots run a pair of Riverside Bar and Grill King of the St. Lawrence Series events at a pair of ¼-mile Eastern Ontario Ovals. Scott Bonnell is on the road to the recovery after a serious crash that occurred at Little Valley Speedway Saturday Night.

Bryan Howland Blows Away ASCS Patriot Field at Little Valley

Bryan Howland’s Holiday dominance continued on Saturday as the three-time Patriot Champion dominated on a Patriotic Holiday Weekend at Little Valley.

Stewart Friesen Soars to First Sprint Win in ASCS Patriot A-Main at Ransomville

Stewart Friesen had only made one start in a modified at his family-owned Ransomville Speedway this season, but brought home the win in the 50 lapper. That track experience, along with plenty more, proved to be the overwhelming variable needed to score his first sprint car win.

Jared Zimbardi Zooms to ASCS Patriot Win at Brockville

Jared Zimbardi entered Brockville with three straight second-place finishes in ASCS Patriot competition and knew he was just a good redraw away from grabbing his first win of the year. Bubba Broderick Blows Away ASCS Patriot Field at Eriez

Bubba Broderick has always been known for driving his sprint car to the limit, so when he jumped out in front of the ASCS Patriot Field in the A-Main Sunday Night at Eriez there was no question he would once again be on the edge. It was this tight line that he walked that made him exciting to watch, even though he had a three second lead most of the race.



Broderick, 20, from Brookfield, CT, led all 25 laps of the second leg of the Mike Emhof Motorsports King of OH/PA Series to collect the $2,000 top prize. Patriots Rained Out at Woodhull before Conclusion. Feature to Be Run on July 31

The only thing moving faster than ASCS Patriots at Woodhull on Saturday Night was the rate at which the program was moving along, still it was not enough to get to the features before Mother Nature arrived.



As the green flag dropped on the Four Laps of Fame Dash, a light drizzle that had been around for more than an hour turned in to a heavier rain, which would settle in on the high banks and wipe out racing for the rest of the night.

Steve Poirier was using Saturday primarily to break in his new car in competitive conditions. When he drew the outside pole for the feature, though, he knew if he got out in front early he could bring home a win.

Patriots Make Yearly Trip to Canandaigua

Since 2003, the ASCS Patriot Sprints have been thrilling sprint car fans across the Northeast at all sorts of racetracks; in that time though, only one speedway has made sure to host a full-point race each and every season- Canandaigua.

2010 ASCS Patriot Tour Sets Sail Friday at Black Rock

It’s the most-frequented stop in Patriot history, so it seems to reason that the Patriot Sprints kick off the 2010 season at Black Rock this weekend.

2010 Schedule Finalized

Coming off a banner 2009 season, the ASCS Patriots 2010 schedule has been finalized with a record number of enhanced purses to reward racers and fans alike.

The eighth season of competition for the Northeast 360 sprint series will feature 31 sanctioned events, including stops at 16 premier facilities from April through October. This will also be the second year with the “Five Crown Tour” featured to reward localized competitors.

Riverside Bar and Grill King of the St. Lawrence Series Concludes Saturday at Brockville

When Bryan Howland won his heat to qualify for the feature, he knew he had locked up the 2009 Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Title; with points no longer a worry, he focused in on going for the win and came through with a wire-to-wire win.

Trevor Lewis Tames Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots at Sharon

Back in May, Trevor Lewis had to start 19th at Sharon and charged up to second place; so when he had the task of starting in eighth via the redraw, he had no problem of getting to the lead and staying there.

Collard Claims First at Humberstone

Most of the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Teams in the pits knew that being effective on the bottom would be the key to winning on Sunday at Humberstone, but only Jamie Collard was able to perfect the low line as he scored his first career sprint car win.

Bryan Howland and his team weren’t sure on their setup heading in to the feature event at Stateline, but after 25-laps it was clear that their final decision was the correct one.

Patriots to Crown a Pair of Kings This Weekend

For the second-straight season, Mother Nature has helped to setup a late-season double header weekend spanning two countries, and this time two legs of the Five Crown Tour .

The Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots return to Stateline Speedway this Saturday, making up the July event that was rained out after hot laps. That race will complete the PJ Motorpsorts King of the Southern Tier. On Sunday, the Patriots head into Canada to the Humberstone Speedway for the final race in the King of the Golden Horseshoe Series.

Bergeron Bags Brockville

There was plenty of incidents taking place in the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot A-Main on Saturday Night at Brockville, but for Alain Bergeron they were all behind him, leaving him free and clear to run away to his first win at Brockville.

Trevor Lewis Tames Ohsweken

Even though Trevor Lewis had never set his eyes on the Ohsweken Speedway before Friday Night, his learning curve was accelerated with all of the regulars getting thrown a curveball. When it was over, Lewis had hit a home run.

Lewis, of Upper Black Eddy, PA, scored his fourth Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot A-Main win of the year on Friday Night during his maiden voyage to Ohsweken Speedway. The driver of the Homestead Coffee Roasters/ United Crane No. 21L was fastest in hot laps, won his heat and dominated the feature and moved himself right up the list of favorites for next month’s Canadian Sprint Car Nationals.

ASCS Patriot Point Battles Intensify at Ohsweken Friday

In the ASCS point format, two points is just one spot difference in the point fund. In both the 2009 Championship Standings, as well as the King of the Golden Horseshoe Series, two points is all that separates the top two going drivers going for the title.

Dan Kaszubinski Flips to Win at Fulton.

Dan Kaszubinski suffered damage to his No. 20 entering the final corner of the feature at Fulton on Saturday, by the time he had reached the finish line, a whole new incident had him flipping in to the infield and left everyone in attendance with a memory that will not soon forget.

Rain Halts Action at Stateline

Despite having rain fall on six prior occasions at Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot events in 2009, the seventh time this season was not as brief and wiped out what promised to be a thrilling event at Stateline Speedway.

Patriots Takes Six Different Point Leaders to Second Half of 2009

With more than half of the 2009 season now complete, the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot “Five Crown Tour” is looking like the wealth could be spread around when the dust settles at the end of the season.

Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots Return to Roots This Weekend

After expanding the northern limits of the Patriot Region this past weekend in traveling to Cornwall for the fist time, the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots return to the tracks where the idea of the series was first conceived and then became a reality.



On Friday, for the first time since 2006, the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Sprints will return to Delevan, NY for a tour stop at what is now referred to as the Arcade International Raceway. AIR was a weekly sprint track in the early part of the decade and where the idea of a Patriot Tour was devised. The following night, the Stateline Speedway will become the first track to host a second Patriot event in 2009. These two races will conclude the Inaugural PJ Motorsports King of the Southern Tier Series, crowning the first of five mini-series “Kings”.

Bryan Howland’s streak of good luck continued Saturday Night as he moved from fourth to first in a span of two laps by virtue of a lucky break and then a quality move for the lead.

As the 2009 season hits its half way point, the Lucas Oil ASCS Patriot Region will travel north to two tight bullrings along the St. Lawrence River, including to one speedway for the first time.

Bryan Howland Back in ASCS Patriots Victory Lane at Brewerton


After having a win last week basically taken away, Bryan Howland was fine admitting to his crew in Victory Lane: “We Got Lucky!”

Howland, the defending Lucas Oil ASCS Patriots Champion from Auburn, NY, scored the win at the tricky Brewerton Speedway for the second straight year on Friday Night in a thrilling 25-lap feature.

The two-time champion found himself in a four-car scramble for much of the A-Main with current Patriot point leader Jared Zimbardi, Bobby Breen and Trevor Lewis. The No. 51 was running third with four laps remaining, the perfect spot to be when Lewis and Breen came together running for the lead, sending both the back and giving Howland clean race track in front of him.

Tom Huppunen Captures $3,000 in Northern Summer Nationals at Ohsweken

Tom Huppunen has been the top driver at Ohsweken all year long, but with a stout field on hand and a slew of lapped cars between himself and leader Bryan Howland in the waning laps, it seemed as if he would have to settle for second.

Chuck Hebing noted before the night that his 2010 season, which was heavily peppered with bad luck, had him scratching his head about his car and his ability. Even though that bad luck would return later in the night, in the make-up feature, his bad luck was nowhere to be found.


Hebing, the 2006 and 2007 ASCS Patriot Champion, captured his series-high 32nd career feature win with the sun still shining as he lead all 25-laps of the feature race held over from May 22nd. It was his third career win at Woodhull, making him the first to accomplish that feat in a sprint car. Along the way, Hebing would also run the majority of laps under the former track record, with his best a 13.10 on lap four.

We lost a member of our racing family.

Matt Gysel, long time team and family member passed away today. He was 39 years old, and was a very pleasant person to be with. Matt never missed a single one of my races, and when my father was racing he seldom missed any.

We never had a bad time with Matt. He would always bring some cheer and joy to the track, and to the shop when things were getting frustrating. I've personally known Matt since I can remember, and in all my 15 years, I've never met a person like him with a well rounded personality.

Matt will be loved and missed by all that knew him, for he had a piece of everyone's heart.

ASCS 2008 – Reaching New Heights

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (November 24, 2008) – The American Sprint Car Series staggering growth and popularity continued as the sanctioning body set new marks over the course of 2008, its 17th year of activity.

With a dozen Regional series in addition to the O'Reilly ASCoT National Tour, the ASCS logged a record total of 205 nights of competition into the books in 2008 with an additional 37 nights lost to inclement weather.

Sunday ASCS Patriot Event at Humberstone Cancelled

Originally scheduled for August 24, the rained out Patriot show was thought to be a good fit as part of the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals Weekend, running Friday and Saturday just down the road at Ohsweken. It has now become apparent that the weather is likely to affect this plan.

Oh Canada, ASCS Goes North for Three

The fourth running of the Arrow Express Canadian Sprint Car Nationals returns this Friday and Saturday, September 12-13, paying $8,000 to the A-Main Winner and distributing one of the largest purses in 360 sprint car racing. Complete Story

Chuck Hebing noted before the night that his 2010 season, which was heavily peppered with bad luck, had him scratching his head about his car and his ability. Even though that bad luck would return later in the night, in the make-up feature, his bad luck was nowhere to be found.


Hebing, the 2006 and 2007 ASCS Patriot Champion, captured his series-high 32nd career feature win with the sun still shining as he lead all 25-laps of the feature race held over from May 22nd. It was his third career win at Woodhull, making him the first to accomplish that feat in a sprint car. Along the way, Hebing would also run the majority of laps under the former track record, with his best a 13.10 on lap four.

Triple Dip This Weekend

Barger Declared Black Rock Winner

A-Verdi King of Central New York Update

With two feature races complete and another event with the qualifying events completed, only two points separate the top three in the standings, equivalent to the difference in a position on the race track. Those two points are also equivalent to the final margin between the top two in 2007.

Dustin Daggett Dominates Opening Night of ASCS Northern Summer Nationals at Ohsweken

Rich Vleck, OHSWEKEN, Ont. (July 4, 2008)- Dustin Daggett was one of the strongest cars all night long at Ohsweken, but he needed a big chunk of luck early in the feature to open up the door to his fifth career win at his favorite racetrack.



Daggett was the beneficiary of a lap seven crash, which took out the top three runners and opened up the track to one of Ohsweken’s Most Dominant Cars. The Portland, MI driver, who had captured the last four ASCS Sprints on Dirt Features at Ohsweken, pulled away over the final 18 laps through expert maneuvers for the win.

Draw will be open from 5:00-6:30 p.m.
Any competitors running late may call 519-384-0325 from 6:00-6:30 p.m.
Anyone that does not draw by 6:30 will start scratch in their heat
All ASCS members may draw for free, all others will be charged a $10 draw fee per night. All competitors will be paid in full regardless of membership.
Draw will determine hot lap and heat segments. Drivers must compete in designated session and will not be permitted to run in any others. In addition, each driver must make 2 slow laps on the main track to help pack the surface. Failure to do so will result in no hot laps for that driver. Complete Story

John Schuyler Wins at Eriez In Closest Finish In ASCS Patriot History

He would end up handing over the lead, but that wasn’t until he was 10 feet past the finish line.

Chuck Hebing noted before the night that his 2010 season, which was heavily peppered with bad luck, had him scratching his head about his car and his ability. Even though that bad luck would return later in the night, in the make-up feature, his bad luck was nowhere to be found.


Hebing, the 2006 and 2007 ASCS Patriot Champion, captured his series-high 32nd career feature win with the sun still shining as he lead all 25-laps of the feature race held over from May 22nd. It was his third career win at Woodhull, making him the first to accomplish that feat in a sprint car. Along the way, Hebing would also run the majority of laps under the former track record, with his best a 13.10 on lap four.

Five Star Lineup for Motorsports Expo

Rich Vleck, TULSA, Okla., (February 25, 2008)- It’s that time of the year again when the Northeast comes together in Syracuse to prepare for the racing season ahead, and once again the ASCS Patriot Region has five top teams ready for showcase at the 2008 Motorsports Expo.

Five Patriot cars will once again have prominent representation at the Cargill Exhibit Center from March 7-9 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse. This year the cast includes four cars that have been on display in the past and one that will be at the Motorsports Expo for the first time but be on display for the Patriots for the second time in a month.
