ASCS Patriots Wrap Up Regular Season in Holiday Weekend Double Dip

A great summer of racing is now quickly nearing the end for yet another year. Before the weather gets cold though, there are two more big shows this weekend for the ASCS Patriots with plenty on the line.

For the second year in a row, the ASCS Patriots return to Sharon and Eriez Speedways for a pair of $2,000-to-win Labor Day Weekend Races. These are the final two full point shows of the year, putting an end to the regular season before the many post-season events get going in the fall. The Saturday and Sunday events will also serve as the final shows in the Mike Emhof Motorsports King of Ohio and Pennsylvania Series.

Bryan Howland Survives Scare for ASCS Patriot Win at Stateline

In baseball, Reggie Jackson was dubbed “Mr. October” for his late-season performances. In the Patriot Region, Bryan Howland’s late-season excellence could earn him the title “Mr. August.”

Howland, of Auburn, NY, capitalized on a slight bobble by Tim Kelly on lap 18 to take the lead and drive away to score his fourth ASCS Patriot win of the season to capture the Insinger Race Fuels King of the Southern Tier Crown while strengthening his championship point lead in the process. Already the only driver to win multiple Patriot features at Stateline, Howland would win on the final Saturday in August for the third year in a row on the NY/PA Stateline.

A dreary day in Southern Ontario ended miserably for fans and teams alike as the ASCS Patriot event as part of the Fine Touch Collision King of the Golden Horseshoe Series was washed out.

As has been the case in the two prior Patriot shows at Merrittville, 25 cars filled the pits with a nice mix of Patriot regulars, locals and others. The cars hit the D-shaped oval for hot laps, with rookie Dylan Swiernik the quickest of the group.
